Letter to Minister Dowden on progress with implementing the UK’s 2016-28 Action Plan commitments
A letter was sent to Minister Oliver Dowden on 15th February to congratulate the government’s progress with implementing Commitment 6 of the 2016-18 National Action Plan on collecting and publishing more granular data on grantmaking in line with the 360Giving Standard.
The data published includes information on grants totalling £4 billion, and has been released in an open, comparable format. This means that – for the first time in the UK – it is possible to easily compare central government grants with those being made by local government and by charitable trusts and foundations. This makes it possible to follow the flow of grant funding to the same organisations, sectors and regions.
It is hoped that other departments will follow the example set by the Ministry of Justice and the Department for Transport and make their grants data available in an open, comparable way so that everyone can find out who is funding what, where and what for.
The letter on behalf of the Open Government Network was co-signed by 360Giving, NCVO and the Open Data Institute, who originally supported Commitment 6.
