Institutional Transparency Roundtable

Scotland’s Open Government Network in partnership with CommonSpace would like to invite you to join us at a roundtable on Wednesday 29th November from 10am – 1pm at Hayweight House in Edinburgh, bringing journalists and the Network together on the broad theme of institutional transparency in Scotland. Joining us for the meeting will be representatives from The Ferret, The Herald, The Guardian and CommonSpace (attendees may change closer to the time).

Prompted by recent concerns raised by journalists across Scottish media titles, members of Scotland’s Open Government Network have written to the Scottish Parliament to call for an urgent review of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. The objective of this meeting is to bring together journalists in Scotland and interested members of the Open Government Network on the broad theme of institutional transparency in Scotland and to advance the conversation on this topic.

We would like to engage the Network’s members and Scotland’s media with an exchange of ideas around the challenges in Scotland and shed light on how these might be addressed. We would also like to consider how we might bring the broad skills, knowledge and expertise in the Network together with the wider media to support one another on issues connected to open government in the future. The Open Government Partnership has encouraged civil society and media around the world to form partnerships to support the development of the open government agenda.

By the end of the session we expect there to be a few specific short-term actions that can be taken forward by the Network. A draft agenda for the roundtable can be found here:
