Scottish OGP Network – Edinburgh workshop
Get involved in developing the Scottish commitments to the UK Open Government Action Plan
Wednesday, 20 April 2016 from 10:30 to 13:00
This workshop – co-hosted by the Scottish Government and the Scotland Open Government Civil Society Network – will review and develop the Scottish commitments on access to information, anti-corruption, civic participation, open data and public accountability for the UK’s 2016-18 Open Government Partnership National Action Plan.
As a member of the global Open Government Partnership, every two years the UK government in collaboration with civil society must develop an open government national action plan, setting out specific, measurable and time bound commitments to open government reforms. Progress against these commitments will be reviewed by civil society and the Independent Reporting Mechanism of the OGP.
The UK’s third National Action Plan is due for publication in June 2016, and is being collaboratively developed between government and civil society. For the first time the devolved nations are also developing specific commitments for inclusion in the plan. This workshop will feed directly into this and explore a range of ideas, including to:
- Improve the way government engages with citizens and civil society
- Increase the quality of open data and ensuring key datasets are released
- Make government contracts and their delivery transparent
- Open up information on company ownership
- Strengthen Freedom of Information rules and implementation
